Don’t call them “Conservatives”
The Republicans like to identify themselves with “Conservative” values, but what does that mean?
Do they want to conserve our resources, environment, or financial position? In each case, the answer is a resounding “NO.” How many Republicans said “Wait, let’s not start a war until we know how to pay for it and how to finish it?” I can count number that on no hands. Where is the Conservation in starting wars on credit? (Much less, starting a war under false pretenses on credit).
Republicans want to deny climate change. A true Conservative would say “Let’s protect our environment; it’s the only one we have.” A true Conservative would want to protect everyone’s right to vote, not try to limit it. A true Conservative would be a good steward to the Earth.
Sure, the Republicans of today want to conserve a few things: The wealth and power of the 1%, their own positions on the Government payroll, and the systems that keep minorities, women or gays from being treated as equals.
This is not Conservatism. Call them what they are: Oligarchists, Regressives, Racists, Sexists, Oppressors, or Elitists. Do not call them Conservatives. That is an insult to real Conservatives.
